note Turtle Rocks, Comets Win on Opening Day - The CWBL opened its season on Sunday, June 14 under sunny skies, a rarity these days here in Chicago. In the first game, the Riveters and Turtle Rocks played a tight game with good pitching and defense, including a couple of timely double plays, before the Turtle Rocks broke it open late to win 6-1. In the second game, the Comets took an early lead on the Skyline, then held on to win 10-5 as the Skyline started chipping away at the lead late, scoring four runs in the last three innings. In addition to the games, players and fans enjoyed a tasty BBQ. Thanks, Ernie, for working the grill all day.

Gems' News
note Hobbs Silver Medalists - The Gems reached the finals in the annual Roy Hobbs Women's Baseball Tournament, but were defeated by four-time defending champion New England Red Sox 3-0, whose pitcher threw a no hitter. The Gems went undefeated in pool play, outscoring their opponents 50-12, and obtained the number two seed for the playoffs. The Great Lakes Tide and the Chicago Pioneers both gave the Gems good battles in the playoffs; the leads went back and forth in both games, but the Gems prevailed to earn their first trip to the finals.
